Digital Dawn 1972 digital mockup: black shirt back with gold circuitry and a red LED display
DIGITAL GARMENT MOCKUP · NOT A PHYSICAL SAMPLE

THE DIGITAL TURN / 1972

Digital Dawn.

Time, at the touch of a button.

No hands sweeping across a dial. Just a press, a red glow, and the time. Digital Dawn begins with the arrival of the Pulsar P1 in 1972.

01 / THE HISTORY

The reference.
The reason.

1970 announcement. 1972 arrival.

Hamilton announced the Pulsar in 1970. The P1 reached the market in 1972, the first commercially available electronic digital wristwatch. Those two dates describe different milestones; 1972 is the year on our artwork.

LED, not LCD.

The red display used light-emitting diodes. Pressing a button illuminated the time on demand. That interaction is the starting point for Digital Dawn and the line “The future at the touch of a button.”

02 / FROM THE HISTORICAL RECORD

A closer look.

Historical material and reference objects behind the design.

Related period object: a mid-1970s Pulsar Time Computer, photographed in 2021. It shows the era’s LED watch language; it is not identified as the 1972 P1.

03 / THE HOURWORN INTERPRETATION

From reference
to artwork.

The case and bracelet gave way to a screen, red 10:08 numerals and gold circuit graphics. The circuitry is decorative artwork, not a reconstruction of the P1 electronics. Our current black-shirt image is a digital mockup; the smaller final print size still needs a physical test.

Historical images are presented for context and are not the shirt print. This is an independent Hourworn project, with no affiliation with or endorsement by the referenced watch brands.
