The first Zuni order is on its way: four tees and three hoodies, expected here Tuesday, September 15. These are the first blanks—the undecorated garments—I’ll be getting my hands on to see whether they’ll work for Hourworn.
I’ve been looking at Zuni, BTSA, Los Angeles Apparel, SanMar and Lane Seven as possible sources for the clothing. I’m also exploring headwear from Fairweather Johnson, Emblem Headwear, Atonal and 10 10 Hats. I’m still comparing suppliers and styles to find the right fit for Hourworn.
Once the Zuni order is here, I’ll start ordering samples from the other vendors so I can compare the options in person. Photos and descriptions help narrow things down, but I want to know what these garments actually feel like to wear.
First I’ll look at the fabric, fit and construction: the weight and feel, how the tees sit through the shoulders, whether the collars hold their shape, and how the seams and hoodies are finished. Then, as the printing setup comes together, I’ll test how the artwork looks and feels on the fabric. Wearing and washing the samples will help show what shrinks, changes shape or holds up.
The artwork matters, but so does the shirt underneath it. I want Hourworn to be something you keep reaching for because you like wearing it.
These samples will help me decide what earns a place in the collection. I’ll share what I find here—the good parts, anything that falls short, and what I decide to try next.
