DOXA dates the original SUB 300 to 1967. Its orange dial and distinctive bezel offered a different visual language from the dark-dial tool watches associated with the period. The original was rated to 300 metres; that figure describes the historical watch, not an Hourworn product.
More than a timing ring.
The bezel paired elapsed-time markings with depth-related no-decompression information. DOXA describes work with U.S. Divers on the scale and credits development leader Urs Eschle in its account of the design. It is an interesting piece of information design: making a relationship between time and depth visible on the wrist.
Our artwork will interpret that history. It will not provide dive tables or usable diving guidance.
From the reference to BELOW.
Our existing DEPTH research paired a vintage dive dial with a descending scuba diver. The 1967 SUB 300 gives that direction a specific historical anchor: orange, steel and the exploration culture around recreational scuba. DOXA also documents the watch’s connection with Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
The proposed Hourworn composition keeps an orange dial prominent, with an anonymous period diver and restrained underwater detail. The shirt graphic will carry Hourworn branding. This is an independent project, with no DOXA or Cousteau affiliation or endorsement.
The fourth direction, still being built.
BELOW joins Blue Bird, the navy/red GMT bezel on white, and Digital Dawn as the fourth opening-collection concept. The title card here records the direction; it is not finished artwork or a photograph of a printed shirt.
Washed navy and a compact upper-back print are the starting proposals. Final artwork, print dimensions, garment selection, pricing and physical testing remain open. We will share what changes as the design becomes a sample.
